For this month’s blog hop we had to make a quilt in raw edge and glue basted technique with no fusible used. The size should be lap or larger. You may see the technique proposed here.

Για το blog hop αυτού του μήνα, έπρεπε να φτιάξουμε ένα πάπλωμα με την τεχνική της ελεύθερης άκρης και κόλλας για στερέωση, χωρίς τη χρήση θερμοκολλητικού. Το μέγεθος θα έπρεπε να είναι για ριχτάρι ή μεγαλύτερο. Μπορείτε να δείτε την προτεινόμενη τεχνική εδώ.

We also had to use our Spring 2024 fabric bandle that we had received in our latest box sent to us by Island Batik for their Ambassadors Program. My Spring 2024 collection is “this one:”Bubbles, curves and corners” by Deb Tucker Studio 180 Design.

Επίσης, έπρεπε να χρησιμοποιήσουμε το πακέτο υφασμάτων της Άνοιξης 2024 που λάβαμε στο τελευταίο κουτί μας από τα Island Batik για το Πρόγραμμα Πρεσβευτών τους. Η συλλογή μου για την Άνοιξη 2024 είναι η εξής: “Φούσκες, καμπύλες και γωνίες” από το Deb Tucker Studio 180 Design.”

I did not want to make a lap quilt. Therefore I decided to make 4 smaller quilts in order to approach the required size. I thought of making sea creatures since I am on enlongated summer vacations…

Δεν ήθελα να φτιάξω ένα ριχτάρι. Γι’ αυτό αποφάσισα να φτιάξω 4 μικρότερα παπλώματα για να πλησιάσω το απαιτούμενο μέγεθος. Σκέφτηκα να φτιάξω θαλασσινά πλάσματα, αφού βρίσκομαι σε παρατεταμένες καλοκαιρινές διακοπές…

I started dividing the bandle by cold and hot colors (unfortunately I forgot to take a picture). Then I divided by intensity – to dark and medium/bright fabric. I decided to put the dark fabric on the bright background and the bright fabric on the dark background. I started with the fish.

Ξεκίνησα χωρίζοντας το πακέτο υφασμάτων σε ψυχρά και θερμά χρώματα (δυστυχώς ξέχασα να βγάλω φωτογραφία). Στη συνέχεια, τα χώρισα ανάλογα με την ένταση – σε σκούρα και μέτρια/φωτεινά υφάσματα. Αποφάσισα να βάλω το σκούρο ύφασμα σε φωτεινό φόντο και το φωτεινό ύφασμα σε σκούρο φόντο. Ξεκίνησα με το ψάρι.

I made in the same technique the second one and here they are:

Έφτιαξα με την ίδια τεχνική και το δεύτερο, και νάτα:

I then put them on the dark background and also glued them on it.

Στη συνέχεια τα έβαλα σε σκούρο φόντο και τα κόλλησα πάνω του.

This technique suggests to add some interface so that you fix the applique on the machine. Using walking foot or free motion foot. I’d rather used my batting to fix them. I used the fusible batting sent to me by Hobbs in my latest box.

Αυτή η τεχνική προτείνει να προσθέσετε ενίσχυση για να στερεώσετε το απλικέ στη ραπτομηχανή, χρησιμοποιώντας είτε το walking foot είτε το ποδαράκι για ελεύθερη κίνηση. Προτίμησα να χρησιμοποιήσω την βάτα μου για να τα στερεώσω. Χρησιμοποίησα τη θερμοκολλητική βάτα που μου έστειλε η Hobbs στο τελευταίο κουτί μου.

I tried both methods. First the walking foot and the reverse button. I did not like it.

Δοκίμασα και τις δύο μεθόδους. Πρώτα το walking foot και το κουμπί αντίστροφης κίνησης. Δεν μου άρεσε.

Then the free motion foot going back and forward. I am familiar with it from the times I made thread painting. I completed all four items in this technique.

Στη συνέχεια, δοκίμασα το ποδαράκι για ελεύθερη κίνηση πηγαίνοντας μπρος-πίσω. Είμαι εξοικειωμένη με αυτή τη μέθοδο από τις φορές που έκανα ζωγραφική με κλωστές (thread painting). Ολοκλήρωσα και τα τέσσερα έργα με αυτή την τεχνική.

I fixed and quilted at the same time. My beloved Juki is perfect for free motion. I then free motion quilted the background not very densly. But it was needed. This thread painting technique for the fish made the background a little bumpy.

Στέρεωσα και έκανα το quilting ταυτόχρονα. Η αγαπημένη μου Juki είναι τέλεια για ελεύθερη κίνηση. Στη συνέχεια, έκανα quilting στο φόντο με ελεύθερη κίνηση, όχι πολύ πυκνά, αλλά ήταν σίγουρα απαραίτητο. Αυτή η τεχνική του thread painting κάνει το φόντο να έχει φουσκώματα χωρίς καπιτονάρισμα.

You may see that I also fussy cut some bobbles and quilted some sea weeds on the right side. I binded with the same fabric. Final size for each fish 35″ x 24″.

Μπορείτε να δείτε ότι επίσης έκοψα προσεκτικά μερικές φούσκες και έκανα quilting μερικών φυκιών στη δεξιά πλευρά. Ρέλιασα με το ίδιο ύφασμα. Το τελικό μέγεθος για κάθε ψάρι είναι περίπου 90 επί 60 εκ.

I then made two smaller quilts with turtles. I used light background and dark fabric. But since I was fed up with the glue and tried to make the same technique with fusible web to see the result. You know what? The “bumpiness” is exactly the same wich means that is the thread painting that makes the shapes bumpy.

Στη συνέχεια, έφτιαξα δύο μικρότερα παπλώματα με χελώνες. Χρησιμοποίησα φωτεινό φόντο και σκούρο ύφασμα. Ωστόσο, καθώς είχα βαρεθεί με την κόλλα, προσπάθησα να χρησιμοποιήσω την ίδια τεχνική με αράχνη για να δω το αποτέλεσμα. Ξέρετε τι δικαπίστωσα; Τα φουσκώματα είναι ακριβώς τα ίδια, που σημαίνει ότι είναι η τεχνική thread painting που το δημιουργεί.

I fixed everything and then made with the walking foot echo quilting.

Στέρεωσα όλα τα υλικά και στη συνέχεια έκανα quilting ηχώ. Δηλαδή πήγα γύρω γύρω στο περίγραμμα με το walking foot.

And here they are. Final size square 18″. When I get back home, I will make them pillows.

Και νάτα. Το τελικό μέγεθος είναι τετράγωνο πλευράς 45 εκ. Όταν επιστρέψω σπίτι, θα τα κάνω μαξιλάρια.

Off course I used all over aurifil thread and Schmetz needles

Φυσικά, χρησιμοποίησα παντού κλωστές Aurifil και βελόνες Schmetz.

I did not have my Oliso and here is the result. I burned my friends iron mat. LOL

Δεν είχα το σιδεράκι μου Oliso και να το αποτέλεσμα. Έκαψα το κάλυμα της σιδερώστρας της φίλης μου. Χαχα!
