October is the month for Accuquilt challenge. AccuQuilt sent us the GO! North Carolina Star.

Ο Οκτώβρης ήταν ο μήνας της πρόκλησης με το Accuquilt, που μας έστειλε την κοπτική μήτρα GO! North Carolina Star.

This block is quite complex when paper piecing, but with their die, it’s never been easier to make! This die features precise cuts and effortless fabric alignment, plus it’s fat quarter friendly.

Για να φτιάξει κάποιος αυτό το τετράγωνο, χωρίς το κοπτικό μηχάνημα είναι αρκετά πολύπλοκο, αλλά με αυτή τη μήτρα δεν θα μπορούσε να είναι ευκολότερο να πετύχουμε ακριβείς κοπές και ευθυγράμμιση για το ράψιμο, συν το ότι είναι ιδανική για τέταρτα του μέτρου.

We didn’t have to make a North Carolina Star block, but we were free to come up with a new block design using the pieces of this die! There was no requirement to what kind of project we had to make: table runner, wall hanging, throw quilt, sleeping bag, tote bag. Any size, any technique and preferable fall colors! The only limit was our imagination.

Δεν χρειαζόταν να κάνουμε ακριβώς το τετράγωνο North Carolina Star block, αλλά ήμασταν ελεύθεροι να σκεφτούμε κάτι καινούργιο, χρησιμοποιώντας τα κομμάτια της μήτρας! Δεν υπήρχε συγκεκριμένη προδιαγραφή για το έργο που έπρεπε να κάνουμε: ράνερ, πανελ για τον τοίχο, ριχτάρι, υπνόσακο, τσάντα. Ό,τι μέγεθος θέλαμε, όποια τεχνική και κατά προτίμηση φθινοπωρινά χρώματα! Το μόνο όριο ήταν η φαντασία μας!

I printed a block on a paper. I then cut it and started playing with various shapes.

Τύπωσα ένα τετράγωνο σε χαρτί, έκοψα τα κομμάτια και άρχισα να παίζω.

I finally came up with the idea of a basket. I gloued the sides together and decided on this object. You know how much I love 3D! I thought also about a 3d blolck but I am keeping it for another time!

Και στο τέλος μου ήρθε η ιδέα του καλαθιού. Κόλλησα τις πλευρές και έφτιαξα ένα χάρτινο για να δω πώς φαίνεται. Ξέρετε πόσο πολύ μου αρέσουν τα τρισδιάστατα πράγματα! Σκέφτηκα και ένα τρισδιάστατο τετράγωνο με αυτή τη μήτρα, αλλά το κρατάω για άλλη φορά!

I chose my fabrics, that came all from stash builders, trying to have fall colors, but I think I ended up with spring colors……

Διάλεξα υφάσματα από τα ρολάκια που έχω πάρει κατά καιρούς, προσπαθώντας να έχω φθινοπωρινά χρώματα, αλλά νομίζω ότι μάλλον κατέληξα με ανοιξιάτικα….

and put them aside in the paper basket till they were cut.

και τα έβαλα μέσα στο χάρτινο καλάθι μέχρι να τα κόψω.

Cutting with Accuquilt is a piece of cake as I always say. I took out my cutter and take a look how we can have it if not used every day!

Το κόψιμο με το Accuquilt είναι πανεύκολο, όπως λέω κάθε φορά. Εβγαλα έξω το κοπτικό μου και δείτε και πώς κλείνει για να πιάνει λιγότερο χώρο, αν δεν το χρησιμοποιούμε καθημερινά!

I arranged the fabrics according to shape and color. I left the square unused because by that time I had not thought about the buttons. At the end I realized that the F square could be also used for them.

Τακτοποίησα τα υφάσματα σύμφωνα με το σχήμα και το χρώμα τους. Αφησα αρχικά αχρησιμοποίητο το τετράγωνο γιατί την ώρα εκείνη δεν είχα σκεφτεί τα κουμπια. Στο τέλος συνειδητοποίησα ότι θα μπορούσα να το χρησιμοποιήσω γι’ αυτά.

I cut everything needed for my basket.

Εκοψα όλα όσα χρειαζόμουν τια το καλάθι μου

and then joined the pieces according the Accuquilt detailed instructions but also according to my project.

και μετά τα ένωσα σύμφωνα με τις λεπτομερεις οδηγίες της Accuquilt αλλά και σύμφωνα με το δικό μου έργο.

You know the amazing thing about Accuquilt for me is not the velocity and accuracy of cutting but the joining of the pieces, since they are trimmed in order to be easy to join them.

Ξέρετε ότι για μένα το καταπληκτικό με αυτό το κοπτικό δεν είναι μόνο η ταχύτητα που κόβει, αλλά κυρίως η ευκολία στην ένωση, μια και έχουν κοπεί όλα όσα δεν χρειάζονται και μπορεί να μας μπερδέψουν.

I chained pieced all the pieces on my Juki TL2010Q and made all four sides.

Ενωσα με την τεχνική της αλυσίδας στην Juki μου TL2010Q και έφτιαξα και τις 4 πλευρές.

I then cut same size plain Island Batik fabric for the sides of the basket and the bottom. I put plain fabric on the exterior bottom too. I added a fusible interface on all inside pieces and joined them as you see on the photo below. The basket has Y-seams on the bottom.

Εκοψα μετά από μονόχρωμο ύφασμα Ιsland Batik 4 κομμάτια για τις πλευρές του καλαθιού και άλλο ένα για τον πάτο. Το ίδιο ύφασμα έβαλα και στην εξωτερική πλευρά του πάτου. Κόλλησα θερμοκολλητικό ενισχυτικό στα εσωτερικά κομμάτια και τα ένωσα όπως βλέπετε παρακάτω. Το καλάθι έχει στον πάτο ραφές Υ.

I then joined the sides as well and forgot to take a picture.

Μετά ένωσα τις πλευρές μεταξύ τους και ξέχασα να βγάλω φωτογραφία.

For the outside, I added batting to all 5 pieces. To be more precise I used By Annie’s soft and stable (doublee). I quilted on the ditch going around the shapes I wanted in order to have a lt’s say flower and joined the pieces as I did for the inside and again no picture….sorry.

Για το εξωτερικό, πρόσθεσα βάτα και στα 5 κομμάτια. Για την ακρίβεια έβαλα διπλό το soft and stable που είναι παρόμοιο με το μονό Στυλβιλ. Καπιτονάρισα μέσα στις ραφές , περιγράφοντας τα σχήματα που ήθελα, ώστε να θυμίζει λουλούδι και συγγνώμη….. αλλά ξαναξέχασα να βγάλω φωτογραφία.

I put the inside basket into the outside (wrong sides together) and made a seam all around the top. I then binded. The top center of each side was a little bit loose and it was then that I came up with the idea of buttons. And since I could not find among the content of 3 whole boxes with buttons!!!! the perfect ones for my basket, I decided to make my own. (Remember square F?).

Εβαλα το εσωτερικό καλάθι μέσα στο εξωτερικό (ανάποδη με ανάποδη) και έκανα μια ραφή στην επάνω πλευρά γύρω-γύρω. Μετα ρέλιασα. Όμως η επάνω μεριά των πλαϊνών ήταν κάπως χαλαρή κι εκεί ήταν που μου ήρθε στο μυαλό να βάλω κουμπιά. Και μια και δεν μπορούσα να βρω τα τέλεια κουμπια για το καλάθι μου μέσα σε 3 κουτιά με κουμπια!!, αποφάσια να φτιάξω τα δικά μου (Θυμάστε το τετράγωνο F;).

Needless to say that I am so enthousiastic about my basket!!!!! Thank you all our sponsors but especially Accuquilt for having asked to go out of the box for this die!!!!! This is the kind of challenges I like!

Περιττό να σας πω πόσο ενθουσιασμένη είμαι με το καλάθι μου!!!!! Ευχαριστώ όλους τους συνεργάτες του προγράμματος, αλλά ιδιαίτερα την Accuquilt που με αυτή την κοπτική μήτρα μας ζήτησε να βγούμε έξω από το κουτί!!!!! Αυτές είναι οι προκλήσεις που μου αρέσουν περισσότερο!
