It was a great pleasure to see that there was the making of a bag on this semester’s schedule. We love a lot the bag making in Greece. And I love especially Annie’s Unrein patterns. When I was asked about the pattern I wanted to make, I chose this bag that actually is not a bag, but a whole suitcase. I had made this bag in the past several times, but I wanted to see the most of the materials that Annie has in her shop. Therefore I asked for this pattern, that proved to be very wise because Annie has changed this pattern and made it so much more convenient! Annie also chose for us the fabrics to use . They are from the Lemon grass collection (Spring 2020) of my favorite Island Batik which will be available at shops this month.

Πολύ μεγάλη χαρά πήρα όταν στο πρόγραμμα αυτού του εξαμήνου είδα ότι συμπεριλαμβανόταν και η κατασκευή μιας τσάντας. Είναι γνωστό ότι στην Ελλάδα τις αγαπάμε πολύ τις τσάντες. Κι εγώ αγαπώ τα πατρόν της Άννι Ουνράιν. Όταν μου είπαν να επιλέξω σχέδιο, διάλεξα αυτό, που στην πραγματικότητα δεν είναι τσάντα αλλά ολόκληρη βαλίτσα. Είχα κάνει στο παρελθόν αυτό το σχέδιο αρκετές φορές, αλλά ήθελα να δω τα περισσότερα από τα υλικά που πουλάει η Άννι στο μαγαζί της. Γι’ αυτό λοιπόν ζήτησα αυτό το μεγάλο σχέδιο , πράγμα που αποδείχτηκε σοφό, γιατί εκτός των άλλων, η Αννι, το έχει τροποποιήσει και το έχει κάνει πολύ πιο βολικό. Η Αννι διάλεξε επίσης εκείνη τα υφάσματα που θα χρησιμοποιούσαμε. Είναι από τη συλλογή Lemon grass (Άνοιξη 2020) των αγαπημένων μου Island Batik που θα είναι διαθέσιμη στα καταστήματα αυτόν τον μήνα.

So I received the following kit in my second box:

Needless to say that it was the first project I wished to make from this box. Everything was there. First of all the pattern. And let me tell you the good news. Most of the new patterns produced by Annie come with and Add-On video tutorial. In fact the tutorial has several videos according the various part of the bag. I know that most people love videos (after all I am also making videos) but I have to say that I am a person who does not like so much the videos because I have not so much time to spare. I like the written instructions or the very condensed videos. The way Annie has structured her tutorials is very attractive even for me. There is one video for each part wher some more than the written instructions is needed. So you only have to watch what you need, or all of them.

Περιττό να σας πω ότι ήθελα να αφήσω όλα τα άλλα και να ασχοληθώ με την τσάντα. Το κιτ τα είχε όλα. Πρώτα απ’όλα το πατρόν. Και να σας πω και τα καλά νέα, τα περισσότερα από τα καινούργια σχέδια της Άννι συνοδεύονται και από ένα σύνολο βίντεο, που το καθένα αναφέρεται σε συγκεκριμένο κομμάτι της τσάντας. Ξέρω ότι σε πολλούς αρέσουν τα βιντεάκια (εξάλλου κάνω κι εγώ) αλλά πρέπει να σας πω ότι είμαι από τους άλλους. Προτιμώ τις γραπτές οδηγίες για να τις διαβάζω με τον δικό μου ρυθμό, μια και ο χρόνος μου είναι περιορισμένος. ΄Η τα πολύ γρήγορα βιντεάκια. Ο τρόπος που έχει δομήσει η Αννι τα βιντεάκια της είναι πολύ ελκυστικός ακόμα και για μένα. Υπάρχει ένα βίντεο για κάθε σημείο της τσάντας, που μπορεί να σας προβληματίσει. Αρα μπορείτε να δείτε μόνο τα σημεία που θέλετε ή και όλα!

Μέσα στο πατρόν φαίνονται καθαρά τα κομμάτια που συνοδεύονται από βιντεάκια.

As I told you, Annie had prechosen the following fabrics for me:

Όπως σας είπα ήδη, η Άννι είχε διαλέξει για λογαριασμό μας τα υφάσματα που θα χρησιμοποιούσαμε:

The third above was the lining, the middle the main fabric and the first one the accent color. Sorry Annie but it was too busy for me for the whole bag the middle one, so I did the opposite. Blue bag with the clamshells being the accent color. The pattern has two sizes: Small: 9.5″H x 13.5″W x 6.5″D and Large: 11″H x 16″W x 8.5″D. Of course I made the bigger size.

Το τρίτο κατά σειρά ήταν η φόδρα. Το μεσαίο έπρεπε να είναι το βασικό μου ύφασμα και το αριστερό να είναι το συμπλήρωμά του. Συγγνώμη Αννι, αλλά το μεσαίο ήταν πολύ φλύαρο για μένα. Κι έτσι τα αντέστρεψα κι έφτιαξα μια μπλε τσάντα με λεπτομέρειες από το μεσαίο. Το σχέδιο είχε δυο μεγέθη: Ένα μικρό 24 επί 34 επί 16,50 εκ. και ένα μεγάλο: 28 επί 40,50 επί 21,50. Φυσικά έκανα το μεγαλύτερο μέγεθος.

Aurifil had also sent us relative threads.

Η Aurifil μας είχε στείλει επίσης ταιριαστές κλωστές με τα υφάσματά μας.

I quilted in random curves. Καπιτονάρισα κάνοντας τυχαίες καμπύλες γραμμές.

The only thing I made differently from Annie, was to zig zag stich all the edges instead of sewing a 1/4″ seam. This works better for me. And here it is.

Το μόνο πράγμα που έκανα διαφορετικά, ήταν το ότι στις άκρες έκανα ένα ζιγκ-ζαγκ αντί για τη ραφή του 1/4″. Και νάτην η βαλίτσα μου.

The big difference from the previous pattern is this compartment divided by the clear plastic. Believe me, it makes all the difference. It keeps everything in place. The inside dividers are also sewn in more practical way. I loved it.

Η μεγάλη διαφορά από το προηγούμενο πατρόν είναι τα μέρη της βαλίτσας που χωρίζουν με διάφανο πλαστικό που κλείνει με φερμουάρ. Κάνει όλη τη διαφορά. Τις εσωτερικές “σελίδες” επίσης τις στερεώνει με πιο καλό τρόπο.

I put on the one side what I need for my embroidery projects.

Στη μια μεριά έβαλα όλα τα σχετικά με το κέντημά μου

and on the other side what is relative with my quilting. The one side of the one divider was made as you see with elastic because it is more convenient for me.

και στην άλλη μεριά τα σχετικά με το ράψιμο. Τη μια “σελίδα” την έκανα επίσης με χοντρό λάστιχο, γιατί με βολεύει να έχω τα εργαλεία μου έτσι και να τα μεταφέρω.

And if you wonder what a Playmobil does in my suitcase, you need to know that it was my granddaughter’s gift a long timne ago and this granny goes everywhere I go.

Κι αν αναρωτιέστε τι δουλειά έχει ένα Πλεϊμομπίλ μέσα στα πράγματά μου, πρέπει να σας πω ότι μου το έκανε δώρο η Λένα μερικά χρόνια πίσω και από τότε όπου πάω κι εγώ έρχεται και η γιαγιά μαζί μου.

Furthermore, in order to accomodate small things, I made a variation of Annie’s clam up pouch. Hexagons not yet fixed on the exterior. Some of the pieces I used were leftovers from the bag whereas some of them were sent to me during a Pincushion swap

Επίσης, για να βολέψω μερικά μικροπράγματα, έκανα μια παραλλαγή του πατρόν της Άννι clam up pouch. Τα εξαγωνάκια είναι της μισής ίντσας και όχι, δεν τα έκανα όλα εγώ. Μου τα είχαν στείλει σε μια ανταλλαγή μαζί και με χαρτάκια και έκανα κι εγώ 6 για να βγει το σχέδιο που ήθελα. Κρίμα να πάνε χαμένα. Το χρώμα ταίριαζε απόλυτα
