“Aurifil is proud to sponsor the September challenge – Threaded Chaos Blog Hop! This challenge is all about crazy quilts, texture, creativity, and, of course, lots of thread – because crazy quilts are known for their rich, decorative stitching.

“Η Aurifil είναι ο υπερήφανος χορηγός της πρόκλησης του Σεπτεμβρίου – Χάος με κλωστές με την Aurifil! H Πρόκληση αυτή περιλαμβάνει την τεχνική του τρελού και άναρχου πάτσγουορκ, με υφές, δημιουργικότητα και φυσικά πολλές κλωστές – μια και η τεχνική αυτή είναι γνωστή για τις πλούσιες διακοσμητικές βελονιές της.

“A crazy quilt is a truly artistic creation, featuring irregularly shaped fabric pieces sewn together in an asymmetrical, freeform design. One of its most distinctive elements is the use of decorative embroidery stitches along the seams, adding intricate details and embellishments. Common stitches include feather stitch, herringbone, and chain stitch, among many others.

“Πέρα από τις βελονιές, τα τρελά παπλώματγα διακοσμούνται συχνά με απλικέ, δαντέλα, κοδέλες, χάντρες, ακόμα και προσωπικά αναμνηστικά, κάνοντας το κάθε κομμάτι βαθιά συναισθηματικό. Χωρίς αυστηρά πατρόν και κανόνες, αυτά τα παπλώματα είναι συχνά αγαπητά από τους κουίλτερς που θέλουν να πειραματίζονται και να αφήνουν τη δημιουργικότητά τους να τρέχει ξέφρενα!”

Following those details we had to make a quilt at least crib size and use the Spring 2025 fabric bundle we were sent in our boxes, that in my case was the “Garden Glory” by Claudia Pfeil.

Ακολουθώντας λοιπόν αυτές τις λεπτομέρειες, έπρεπε να κάνουμε ένα κουίλτ τουλάχιστον μεγέθους κούνιας και να χρησιμοποιήσουμε τη συλλογή Ανοιξη 2025 που βρήκαμε στα κουτιά μας και στην περίπτωσή μου ήταν η “Garden Glory” by Claudia Pfeil.

Not my favorite colors, but this is the beauty of this Program. To make things that are out of our comfort zone. When I saw them, I immediately thought of Mexico and Frida Calo. I started something related but I was not so happy, because nor this technique is my favorite. I find it a little bit overwhelming for my taste. When I started, we were still at our summer house, where the children room has similar colors. You see those bolster pillows between the two beds on the photo? Those were the idea! To stop being so uncolored .

Οχι τα πιο αγαπημένα μου χρώματα, αλλά αυτή είναι και η ομορφιά αυτού του προγράμματος. Να κάνουμε πράγματα έξω από τη βολή μας. Οταν τα είδα, αμέσως σκέφτηκα το Μεξικό και τη Φρίντα Κάλο. Ξεκίνησα κάτι με αυτή αλλά δεν μου βγήκε όπως ήθελα, γιατί ούτε και αυτή η τεχνική είναι από τις καλύτερές μου. Είναι λίγο παραφορτωμένη για το γούστο μου. Οταν ξεκίνησα, ήμασταν ακόμα στο εξοχικό μας, όπου το παιδικό δωμάτιο έχει παρόμοια χρώματα. Βλέπετε αυτά τα μαξιλάρια/καραμέλες ανάμεσα στα δυο κρεβάτια ; Αυτή ήταν η ιδέα. Να τα κάνω λίγο πιο χρωματιστά

I will give you below a quick tutorial.

Θα σας δώσω παρακάτω έναν σύντομο βήμα – βήμα

I measured them and I needed for each pillow a square quilt of 36″. Therefore, I designed on a square piece of paper of 18″ size my crazy design. I put letters and numbers on each piece .(sorry for the dark photo). I had to make four pieces for each pillow and then join them.

Τα μέτρησα και είδα ότι χρειαζόμουν για κάθε μαξιλάρι ένα τετράγωνο κουίλτ πλευράς 92 εκ. Ετσι σχεδίασα πάνω σε ένα κομμάτι τετράγωνο χαρτί πλευράς 46 εκ. το τρελό σχέδιο που ήθελα. Εβαλα γράμματα και νούμερα σε κάθε κομμάτι για να μην μπερδευτώ και φυσικά το έβγαλα και φωτογραφία, που βγήκε σκοτεινή και ζητώ συγγνώμη γι αυτό. Επρέπε να κάνω 4 κομμάτια για κάθε μαξιλάρι.

I then cut 8 square pieces of fabric of 18″ and put them underneath the paper. I pinned them and cut them apart having always in front of me the above image. (no image, sorry again)

Εκοψα μετά 8 τετράγωνα κομμάτια από τα υφάσματα της συλλογής μου πλευράς 46 εκ. και τα έβαλα σε στοίβα κάτω από το χαρτί μου. Τα καρφίτσωσα και μετά τα έκοψα πάνω στις γραμμές και τα τοποθέτησα με βάση την εικόνα, για την οποία επίσης συγγνώμη δεν έχω φωτογραφία.

I cut 8 pieces of 80/20 Hobbs batting, sent to me in my box ( a little bigger than the initial paper). Then I chose from each pile the piece I liked and I fixed them on the batting busing spray 505. I also used some pieces fro the rest of the collection, as you may see pinned on the right side of the below image.

Εκοψα 8 κομμάτια βάτας 80/20 που μου έστειλε η Hobbs στο κουτί μου (λίγο μεγαλύτερα από 46 εκ.). Μετά διάλεξα από κάθε στοίβα το κομμάτι που μου άρεσε και τα κόλλησα πάνω στη βάτα χρησιμοποιώντας το σπρέι 505. Χρησιμοποίησα επίσης και μερικά κομμάτια σκόρπια από την υπόλοιπη συλλογή, όπως βλέπετε στο δεξιό μέρος της παρακάτω φωτογραφίας που τα καρφίτσωσα στο τέλος.

I then started sewing, using various embroidery stitches that my Husqvarna Viking Jade 35 has.

Μετά ξεκίνησα να ράβω χρησιμοποιώντας διάφορες βελονιές από την Husqvarna μου Viking Jade 35.

To be honest, I had asked for this project by Aurifil to send me turquoise and teal threads,

Γιια να είμαι ειλικρινής, είχα ζητήσει από την Aurifil να μου στείλει τις κλωστές που βλέπετε παρακάτω,

but I used green and burgundy I had from other shipment. You will see those colors on a next project.

αλλά τελικά χρησιμοποίησα παλιότερες Aurifil κλωστές σε χρώμα πράσινο και βυσινί και θα δείτε τις κλωστές αυτές στο έργο του Νοεμβρίου.

When I finished all 8 of them, I trimmed them and I put them in pairs on my table side by side. If you make the below picture bigger you may see the pins. I pinned there pieces from the rest of the fabric so that I can show all fabrics of the collection and do not let the sharp edge between the two pieces be seen. I did not want to show the squares. I wanted the final quilt to be totally crazy.

Οταν τελείωσα και τα 8, τα καθάρισα γύρω-γύρω και τα έβαλα σε ζευγάρια πάνω στο τραπέζι μου. Αν μεγαλώσετε την παρακάτω φωτογραφία θα δείτε τα κομμάτια που έβαλα πάνω στις ενώσεις γιατί δεν ήθελα να φαίνονται οι άκρες των τετραγώνων. Ετσι έγινε τελείως τρελό.

When I prepared the 4 pairs, then I joined twice two pairs and I finally had 2 square bigger quilts. I then cut two more pieces of fabric (without any batting and quilting) and sewed them on two sides of the quilt. Then I joined the other sides. I put the pillow in and tied them with a ribbon. Therefore I made the quilts into two pillows!

Οταν ετοίμασα και τα 4 ζευγάρια, έκανα αυτή τη διαδικασία ανά δυο ζευγάρια, ώστε να έχω 2 μεγάλα τετράγωνα κουίλτς.Μετά έκοψα δύο ακόμα κομμάτια ύφασμα χωρίς βάτα και καπιτονάρισμα και τα έραψα στις δύο απέναντι πλευρές του κάθε κουίλτ. Μετά ένωσα τις άλλες δυο πλευρές μεταξύ τους, έβαλα μέσα το μαξιλάρι και έδεσα τις άκρες που περισσεύουν με μια κορδέλλα. Και πάπλωμα και μαξιλάρι!!!

Oliso was also there….

Το σιδεράκι μου Oliso ήταν επίσης μαζί μου.

I am very pleased with them!!!! And I hopefully gave you an idea for old quilts that you no longer use.

Το τελικό αποτέλεσμα μου άρεσε πολύ!!!!!

And they fitted beautifully in the room in terms of colors.

Και ταίριαξαν πολύ όμορφα στο δωμάτιο από πλευράς χρωμάτων.
