Create for a Cause with Studio 180 Design June challenge / Πρόκληση Ιουνίου με το Studio 180 Design – Δημιουργούμε για καλό σκοπό.

For the month of June our challenge for the Island Batik Ambassadors Program was to make a quilt that whould be donated to the American Organization Sleep in Heavenly Peace. A group of volunteers dedicated to building, assembling, and delivering top-notch bunk beds to children and families in need. So many great charities provide clothing, meals, and toys to families in need. But as wonderful as this aid is, few organizations offer suitable beds and bedding to the kids in these families. Sleep in Heavenly Peace fully believes that a bed is a basic need for the proper physical, emotional, and mental support that a child needs. If a child needs a bed, Sleep in Heavenly Peace wants to make sure they get one. NO KID SLEEPS ON THE FLOOR IN OUR TOWN!

Για τον Ιούνιο η πρόκλησή μας για το Πρόγραμμα των Πρεσβευτών των Island Batik ήταν να φτιάξουμε ένα πάπλωμα που θα δώσουμε στον Αμερικανικό Οργανισμό Sleep in Heavenly Peace. Μια ομάδα εθελοντών έχει αφιερωθεί στον να φτιάχνει κρεβάτια – κουκέτες για παιδιά και οικογένειες που βρίσκονται σε ανάγκη. Υπάρχουν πολλές εξαιρετικές οργανώσεις (στμ. στην Αμερική) που προσφέρουν ρούχα, τρόφιμα και παιχνίδια σε οικογένειες που έχουν ανάγκη. Αλλά όσο εξαιρετική δουλειά και αν κάνουν, λίγες οργανώσεις προσφέρουν κουκέτες στις οικογένειες αυτές. Ο οργανισμός “Sleep in Heavenly Peace” πιστεύει ακράδαντα ότι το κρεβάτι είναι μια βασική ανάγκη για την ψυχική, σωματική και συναισθηματική υποστήριξη των παιδιών αυτών. Quilts Across America is a program that relies on the generosity of quilters everywhere to provide a quilt with each bed that is delivered. Quilts Across America was initiated by Studio 180 Design and Tucker University in July 2023. They asked us to help make this the largest quilting project in America and complete the process of getting kids, Off the floor, Into a Bed, and Under a Quilt.

Μας ζήτησαν λοιπόν να βοηθήσουμε να γίνει αυτό το μεγαλύτερο πρόγραμμα με παπλώματα στην Αμερική και να βοηθήσουμε τα παιδιά εκεί ΝΑ ΦΥΓΟΥΝ ΑΠΟ ΤΟ ΠΑΤΩΜΑ, ΝΑ ΜΠΟΥΝ ΣΕ ΕΝΑ ΚΡΕΒΑΤΙ ΚΑΙ ΝΑ ΣΚΕΠΑΣΤΟΥΝ ΜΕ ΕΝΑ ΠΑΠΛΩΜΑ.

The size of the quilt should be between 50” to 60” wide and 75” to 90” long. (My size is 60 * 88″). We could use any Island Batik fabric. Ι used assorted.

We had to make at least 30 units in total, using the Deb Tucker’s tool that came in my Island Batik box in January, that in my case was the following.

The unit I chose to make was this one.

I made 80 units with white and turquoise and red. Then I joined them in units of four and made 10 red blocks and 10 turqoise (80 units in total).

Εφτιαξα 80 μονάδες με λευκό και κόκκινο ή τυρκουάζ. Μετά ένωσα τις μονάδες αυτές σε ενότητες των 4 και έφτιαξα 10 κόκκινα τετράγωνα και 10 τυρκουάζ (συνολικά 80 ενότητες).

I then joined them in stripes that I would use as frame to an applique quilt. I also added between the frame and the center a narrow.

Μετά ένωσα τα τετράγωνα αυτά σε λωρίδες, για να τις χρησιμοποιήσω ως πλαίσιο γύρω από ένα κομμάτι με απλικέ. Πρόσθεσα ενδιάμεσα και ένα στενό πλαίσιο.

I used wollen batting sent to me by Hobbs in a previous Island Batik box.

Χρησιμοποίησα μάλλινη βάτα που μου είχε στείλει η Hobbs σε ένα προηγούμενο κουτί των Island Batik.

Of course Schmetz needles and aurifil thread.

Βεβαίως Schmetz needles και κλωστή aurifil.

I fixed everything in free motion with raw edges and thread of charcoal color. I free motioned embroidered dragons face

Στερέωσα όλα τα κομμάτια με ελεύθερο γαζί, ελεύθερες άκρες και μολυβιά κλωστή. Κέντησα με ελεύθερο κέντημα το πρόσωπο του δράκου.

and then I quilted on the mountains and the sky with the walking foot.

και μετά καπιτονάρισα τα βουνά και τον ουρανό με απλό γαζί και το walking foot.

I added some flowers in order to bring the red color more in the center of the quilt.

Πρόσθεσα και μερικά κόκκινα λουλουδάκια για να φέρω το κόκκινο και μέσα στο κέντρο του παπλώματος. Επίσης μια γαλάζια σημαία.

I forgot to mention that those triangles on the spine and the tail of the dragon are 3dimensional.

Ξέχασα να σας πω ότι τα τρίγωνα στην ουρά και τη ράχη του δράκου τα έκανα 3σδιάστατα.

My precious Oliso (or else “the dream that came true”) was always next to me.

Το αγαπημένο μου σίδερο Oliso (ή όπως αλλιώς το λέω εγώ “ένα όνειρο που έγινε πραγματικότητα”) ήταν πάντα δίπλα μου.
