Last challenge for this year for the Island Batik Ambassadors Program! Can you believe it? This last challenge was hand sewing. English Paper piecing.

Τελευταία πρόκληση αυτής της χρονιάς για το πρόγραμμα των Πρεσβειρών των Island Batik! Απίστευτο μου φαίνεται…. Αυτή η τελευταία μας λοιπόν πρόκληση αφορά το Εγγλέζικο πάτσγουορκ, δλδ την τεχνική με την οποία κάνουμε εξάγωνα και όχι μόνον.

“English Paper Piecing (commonly called EPP) is a method of stabilizing fabric around a heavy paper shape before sewing the pieces together to create intricately pieced designs. It provides excellent accuracy and precision piecing. English Paper Piecing originated in England and was called Mosaic or honeycomb patchwork. In the late 1700’s, when all things English became popular in the U.S., the term English Paper Piecing was coined. The most popular shape has always been the hexagon because it makes good use of fabric scrap and is easy to assemble. The most recognizable hexagon pattern is Grandmother’s Flower Garden, which became popular in the 1920-1930s”. You may see more details and the way we make them here.

“English Paper Piecing (το βρίσκετε και με τα αρχικά του ως EPP) δλδ το Εγγλέζικο πάτσγουορκ είναι μια τεχνική κατά την οποία σταθεροποιούμε το ύφασμα γύρω από ένα σχήμα φτιαγμένο από χαρτόνι ή άλλο σκληρό υλικό και μετά ράβουμε μεταξύ τους αυτά τα σχήματα προκειμένου να επιτύχουμε σχέδια μεγάλης ακρίβειας. Η μέθοδος αυτή γεννήθηκε στην Αγγλία, όπως φαίνεται και από το όνομά της και λέγεται κι αλλιώς και Μωσαϊκό ή κυψελωτό πάτσγουορκ. Στα τέλη του 1700, όταν όλα τα Αγγλικά πράγματα έγιναν δημοφιλή στην Αμερική, επινοήθηκε και αυτό το όνομα. Το πιο δημοφιλές σχήμα ήταν πάντα τα εξάγωνα, λόγω του ότι εκμεταλλευόταν και το παραμικρό κομμάτι υφάσματος χωρίς ιδιαίτερες απώλειες και ήταν εύκολο να ενωθούν μεταξύ τους. Το πιο γνωστό σχέδιο με εξάγωνα είναι Ο λουλουδόκηπος της γιαγιάς, που έγινε πολύ αγαπητό τα χρόνια 1920-1930″ Μπορείτε να δείτε περισσότερες λεπτομέρειες αλλά και πώς τα φτιάχνουμε εδώ.

For this month we had to make any type of project using any fabric. The size should be 12″ x12″ mimimum.

Αυτόν τον μήνα λοιπόν είπαμε να φτιάξουμε οποιοδήποτε έργο θέλαμε με οποιοδήποτε ύφασμα χρησιμοποιώντας αυτή την τεχνική. Το μέγεθος έπρεπε να είναι τουλάχιστον 30 επί 30 εκ.

Since you have already known, EPP is not my favorite. I only make EPP in similar occasions trying to finish a project started a long ago. You may read about it here. The pattern is the New Hexagon Millefiore by Katja Marek and is free whereas the hexagon patterns can be found in her book, the New Hexagon.

Μια και όπως ξέρετε, η τεχνική αυτή δεν είναι από τις αγαπημένες μου, βρίσκω κάθε φορά την ευκαιρία να συμπληρώνω ένα τέτοιο έργο που έχω αρχίσει πριν από πολλά χρόνια Μπορείτε να διαβάσετε γι αυτό εδώ. Το σχέδιο λέγεται the New Hexagon Millefiore της Katja Marek και είναι δωρεάν, ενώ τα επιμέρους σχέδια βρίσκονται μέσα στο βιβλίο της, the New Hexagon.

Therefore, I took the opportunity to move a little bit on with my project. I chose fabrics from my scrap bins, cut the papers and started gluing the fabric on them.

Ετσι λοιπόν, άρπαξα κυριολεκτικά και αυτή την ευκαιρία να το προχωρήσω λίγο. Διάλεξα τα υφάσματα από τα υπολείμματά μου, έκοψα τα χαρτάκια μου και άρχισα να κολλάω το ύφασμα σε αυτά.

I used my Apliquick rods to turn the fabrics

Χρησιμοποίησα τα εργαλεία μου της Apliquick για να γυρίσω τα υφάσματα

I started joining pieces for the first set of hexagons

Αρχισα να ενώνω κομμάτια για το πρώτο εξάγωνο

I then joined the next round

Μετά ένωσα τον πρώτο γύρο

and the next / και τον δεύτερο

and then the last round that is not completed according to the pattern

και μετά τον τελευταίο που δεν είναι ολοκληρωμένος, γιατί αυτό επιτάσσει το σχέδιο.

And now I am halfway the quilt.

Και τώρα έχω φτιάξει το μισό πάπλωμα.
