What a challenge this month! We had to work with Aurifil thread that we got in our last box sent to us by Island Batik. Take a look at the description:

Τι πρόκληση και αυτή αυτόν τον μήνα! Επρεπε να δουλέψουμε με κλωστές Αουριφίλ που ήρθαν με το τελευταίο πακέτο μας από τα Island Batik. Ρίξτε μια ματιά στην περιγραφή της.

The 2021 Aurifil Color Builders are a capsule of 12 mini-collections dedicated to an incredibly worthy cause that falls in line with Aurifil’s goal to increase sustainability and positive environmental impact — Endangered Species. Each collection contains three large spools of their supple and strong 40wt thread — a warm, a medium, and a dark. For the October challenge, Aurifil asked us to create a piece inspired by the endangered animal featured on our assigned Color Builder box. We had to use each one of the 3 provided colors somewhere in the challenge piece, how the thread is used is up to you!

Τα κουτιά με τις τριάδες των βασικών κλωστών της Αουριφίλ για το 2021 είναι μίνι συλλογές που είναι αφιερωμένες σε έναν σκοπό που ευθυγραμμίζεται με την πολιτική της εταιρείας για θετική περιβαλλοντική επίδραση. Κάθε συλλογή περιλαμαβάνει 3 μεγάλες κουβαρίστρες με κλωστή Νο 40 – μια ανοιχτόχρωμη, μια μεσαία και μια σκούρα. Για την πρόκληση του Οκτωβρίου, η Αουριφίλ μας ζήτησε να δημιουργήσουμε ένα κομμάτι εμπνευσμένο από το υπό εξαφάνιση είδος, στο οποίο είναι αφιερωμένο το κουτί που πήραμε. Επρεπε να χρησιμοποιήσουμε όλες τις κλωστές κάπου στο έργο μας!

To be honest, the first draft description of October’s challenge was to make thread painting using those 3 spools in any case. I sticked with that and did not pay attention that the challenge was a little bit easier when finalized. Not thread painting but any use of the thread.

Για να είμαι ειλικρινής, η αρχική προσέγγιση της πρόκλησης του Οκτωβρίου ήταν το ελεύθερο κέντημα μηχανής (thread painting) ή αλλιώς ζωγραφική με κλωστές. Εμεινα με αυτό στο μυαλό μου και δεν πρόσεξα την οριστική διατύπωση που ήταν φυσικά και ευκολότερη, μια και ήθελε απλώς να τις χρησιμοποιήσουμε και τις 3.

Guess what I got! Pangolin! I did not even know what it was.

Και μαντέψτε τι μου έτυχε! Ο πανγκολίνος. Δεν ήξερα ούτε καν περί τίνος επρόκειτο.

I had to look at Wikipedia what this was about. You may see below the photo of Aurifil site. I did not like it at all the animal!

Επρεπε να ψάξω στη Βικιπαίδεια να δω τι είναι αυτό το ζωάκι. Παρακάτω βλέπετε τη φωτογραφία από τη σελίδα της Αουριφίλ. Δεν μου άρεσε καθόλου τo ζωάκι για να το φτιάξω !!!

The size of the project should be 20 * 20″. Remember my wrong impression? Thread painting!!! First time in such a scale with this animal!!!! No way!! I decided on printing a photo with a more cute pangolin on a letter size printable paper and then make a composition.

Το μέγεθος του έργου θα έπρεπε να είναι τουλάχιστον 50 επί 50 εκ. Θυμόσαστε και τη λάθος ιδέα που είχα για το έργο; Ελεύθερο κέντημα μηχανής Πρώτη φορά σε αυτή την έκταση και με αυτό το ζώο! Απελπίστηκα! Αποφάσισα να τυπώσω μια φωτογραφία με ένα πιο συμπαθητικό ζωάκι σε μέγεθος Α4 και στη συνέχεια να κάνω μια σύνθεση.

I processed the photo and made it easier in terms of colors. I then started working in free hand embroidery on my Husqvarna Viking Jade 35. So many hours! Between 8 and 10!!! Just for the thread painting of the pangolin.

Επεξεργάστηκα στον υπολογιστή τη φωτογραφία για να την κάνω πιο εύκολη από χρωματικής πλευράς. Μετά άρχισα να κεντάω ελεύθερα στη μηχανή μου. Το έκανα στη Husqvarna Jade 35. Πόσες ώρες για μια σταλιά πράγμα. 8 με 10 περίπου!!!

Then I dove into my Island Batik fabrics and got some beautiful ones to make him a natural surrounding. I cut my thread painting al around

Μετά έκανα μια βουτιά μέσα στα υπέροχα μπατίκ μου και βρήκα μερικά εξαιρετικά ταιριαστά για να του φτιάξω ένα όμορφο περιβάλλον. Εκοψα γύρω γύρω τον παγκολίνο

and I appliqued in on the background I made.

και τον απλικάρισα πάνω στη βάση που έφτιαξα.

I machine embroidered some ants

Κέντησα και μερικά μυρμήγκια.

I then free motion quilted (stippling) the center of my project

Μετά καπιτονάρισα με ελεύθερο καπιτονάρισμα (κορδέλλες) το κέντρο του έργου μου

and made the outline of the butterflies of the frame.

και έκανα και το περίγραμμα από τις πεταλούδες που είχε η φάσα.

Some 3d leaves were added around my pangolin.

Μερικά 3σδιάστατα φύλλα προστέθηκαν γύρω από το ζωάκι.

All the work was done using several types of Schmetz needles. The batting I used was remnants from other projects. Of course Hobbs batting.

Εφτιαξα όλο το έργο χρησιμοποιώντας όπως πάντα διάφορες βελόνες Schmetz. Ενωσα διάφορα υπολείμματα από βάτες που μου είχε στείλει η Hobbs μέσα στα κουτιά μου.

I liked so much my work, that I decided on putting my work on a painting canvas. Isn’t he adorable? The only thing is that I was so enthusiastic about it that I forgot to put my signature on it. LOL

Τόσο πολύ μου άρεσε το τελικό αποτέλεσμα που αποφάσισα να το βάλω πάνω σε ένα τελάρο ζωγραφικής. Μα δεν είναι αξιαγάπητο το πανγκολινάκι μου; Το μόνο κακό είναι που από τον μεγάλο ενθουσιασμό μου, δεν έβαλα την υπογραφή μου. Χαχαχαχα
