I am copying from Island Batik’s document. “No one typically thinks of winter in the summertime but it’s the best time of all to get an early start on Christmas and holiday projects! No matter what special holidays you celebrate around the end of the year, this challenge has something for everyone”. I would add that we, quilters, always think of Christmas during July. It is this “Christmas in July” you see and of course we know that this is the perfect time to start our Christmas projects, which is also known by quilt shops that make many offers.

Ο,τι κι αν περιλαμβάνει ο εορτασμός σας στο τέλος του χρόνου εδώ υπάρχει θέση για όλους”΄Κι εδώ προσθέτω εγώ ότι εμείς οι παπλωματούδες πάντα έχουμε στο νου μας το “Χριστούγεννα τον Ιούλιο” μια και πράγματι είναι σωστός χρόνος να ξεκινήσουμε τα εορταστικά μας και αυτό φυσικά το ξέρουν και τα καταστήματα που προσφέρουν διάφορες εκπτώσεις.

Have I ever told you that I love Christmas. Have I ever also told you that I keep every tiny piece of Island Batik fabrics? Indeed. Have I also told you that I am in love with every form and shape of houses? Take a look here of one of the houses I made for my grandchildren. The rest of them you may see below. I need to tell you that by the time I made them I did not know about my favorite brand Island Batik.

Σας έχω πει πόσο αγαπώ τα Χριστούγεννα; Σας έχω πει επίσης ότι κρατάω κάθε μικρό κομματάκι από από τα αγαπημένα μου Island Batik? Αλήθεια σας λέω. Σας έχω επίσης πει ότι αγαπώ τα σπιτάκια σε κάθε μορφή και μέγεθος; Δείτε εδώ ένα από τα σπιτάκια που έχω φτιάξει για τα εγγόνια μου. Τα άλλα τα βλέπετε στις παρακάτω φωτογραφίες. Και θέλω επίσης να σας πω ότι όλα αυτά τα είχα κάνει πριν ανακαλύψω τα αγαπημένα μου πια Island Batik υφάσματα.

I had some leftovers from a previous collection of my favorite Island Batik. I had made a quilt for my middle grand son, Prokopis. When looking through my stash for this project, I found those leftovers and I immediately thought, why not a Christmas house to have it next to my Santa’s Village? This village is made by Jim Shore. We used to shell such items on the gift shop we had before 2011. And that was the perfect idea.

Είχα λοιπόν κάποια υπολείμματα από προηγούμενη συλλογή που μου είχαν στείλει τα Island Batik. Είχα φτιάξει τότε ένα πάπλωμα για τον μεσαίο μας, τον Προκόπη. Όταν λοιπόν έψαχνα στα υφάσματά μου για να κάνω κάτι γι αυτό τον μήνα, βρήκα τα υπολείμματά αυτά και αμέσως σκέφτηκα γιατί να μην κάνω ένα σπιτάκι Χριστουγεννιάτικο για να το βάλω δίπλα στο χωριό του Αη Βασίλη που έχει κι αυτό μια γεύση πάτσγουορκ μια και είναι του γνωστού στην Αμερική Jim Shore που φτιάχνει πράγματα με βάση το πάτσγουορκ. Εγώ τον έμαθα όταν πουλούσαμε τέτοια αντικείμενα στο μαγαζί με είδη δώρων που είχε o σύζυγός μου πριν το 2011.

And voila! Και νάτο το σπιτάκι μου

I am pretty experienced in 3d house making, so it was a piece of cake. I have not decorated it inside because I just wanted it to be lit.

Είμαι αρκετά πεπειραμένη στα σπιτάκια και γενικά στις 3σδιάστατες κατασκευές. Αρα λοιπόν έγινε σχετικά γρήγορα. Δεν το διακόσμησα από μέσα γιατί ήθελα μόνο να βάζω φωτάκια.

I only added a small christmas tree. Of course some small lacey curtains to be seen from the outside. And take also a look at the floor. What a beauty was this collection! Candy cane Lane was the name.

Πρόσθεσα μόνο ένα μικρό στολισμένο με κομποβελονιά δεντράκι που έκοψα από κάποιο ύφασμα της συλλογής. Και ρίξτε μια ματιά και στο πάτωμα. Μα τί όμορφη ήταν αυτή η συλλογή.

Too much hand sewing but it was worth any moment of it. The interfacing I used was a very stiff one by Vilene. Sorry but I do not remember the name.

Πρέπει να πω ότι είχε και κάμποσο ράψιμο στο χέρι, αλλά χαλάλι του. Το ενισχυτικό που χρησιμοποίησα ήταν κάποιο πολύ σκληρό της Vlieseline που όμως δεν θυμάμαι το όνομά του.

Needless to say that I sewed also in my Husqvarna Viking using Schmetz needles.

Περιττό να σας πω ότι τo ράψιμο στη μηχανή έγινε με βελόνες Schmetz needles.
