Last month of this semester and the boxes for the next semester is here but I have not yet seen their content. This month’s challenge was to make a comfort quilt. More precisely we should use the accuquilt and the die we were sent in our box as well as other dies of previous boxes.

Τελευταίος μήνας του 1ου εξαμήνου και το καινούργιο μου κουτί βρίσκεται εδώ, χωρίς να το έχω ακόμα δει. Αυτόν τον μήνα η πρόκλησή μας ήταν να κάνουμε ένα δώρο ανακούφισης και συγκεκριμένα χρησιμοποιώντας το AccuQuilt και την κοπτική μήτρα που μας έστειλαν αλλά και τις παλιότερες που είχαμε από το κουτί GO! Qube 8″ Mix & Match Block ή και άλλες μήτρες να φτιάξουμε ένα κουίλτ σε ό,τι μέγεθος θέλουμε, με ό,τι υφάσματα θέλουμε.

The die I was sent was Morning Star.

Η κοπτική μήτρα που μου έστειλαν ήταν ένα κλασικό σχέδιο, το morning star.

It is a pattern that seams to have a lot of curves, whereas all lines are streight.

Είναι ένα σχέδιο που δίνει την ψευδαίσθηση της καμπύλης.

I designed the pattern in EQ8 and then I started playing with the colors. I decided on the following. The size of each side is 48″.

Σχεδίασα στο προγραμματάκι μου ένα κουιλτάκι και μετά άρχισα να παίζω με τα χρώματα. Κατέληξα σε αυτό, που έχει μέγεθος 1,20 επί 1,20 μ.

Fabrics I chose was from stash builder sent from Island Batik because I liked the colors and the size of them fits very nice to Accuquilt dies. I used for the background a grey from the solid of Island Batik, that I adore.

Τα υφάσματα που επέλεξα ήταν από τα ρολάκια που είχα από προηγούμενα κουτιά που μου είχαν στείλει τα Island Batik. Τα ρολάκια είναι ιδανικά για τις περισσότερες κοπτικές μήτρες λόγω του μεγέθους τους. Για το φόντο επίσης ένα γκρι από τα μονόχρωμα των αγαπημένων μου Island Batik.

My pieces were cut after a few minutes. I did not count them because I was scared of them.

Λίγη ώρα μετά, τα κομματάκια μου ήταν κομμένα. Απέφυγα να τα μετρήσω για να μην τρομάξω.

I then started joining. To be honest, joining was much easier than I thought it would be. They are joined like pizza slices. I think it was the most time consuming part of the whole quilt. You may have noticed that there are 3 different squares instead of 9 similar. So they needed to be worked very carefully. However………

Μετά ξεκίνησα την ένωση. Η αλήθεια είναι ότι η ένωση ήταν πολύ πιο εύκολη απ’ότι έδειχνε. Σαν κομματάκια από πίτσα ενώνονται τα κομμάτια. Ηταν νομίζω το πιο χρονοβόρο κομμάτι από όλη τη διαδικασία. Επίσης, θα δείτε ότι δεν υπήρχαν 9 ίδια τετράγωνα, αλλά 3 διαφορετικά κι έτσι έπρεπε να δουλευτούν με πολλή προσοχή. Παρόλα αυτά….

I pieced everything, I hung it to take a closer look and what!!! already 3 errors. Can you see them below? Rip 1…. I then joined the stripes as you can see on the top side of the photo, but helas! Wrong design. Bigger and fewer blocks which means that I needed to cut and sew again……Thank God I had those dies too. You see, I needed smaller.

Ενώθηκαν, το κρέμασα δίπλα μου να το καμαρώσω και ανακάλυψα 3 λάθη. Τα βλέπετε παρακάτω; Ξήλωμα 1ο….. Μετά ένωσα τις λωρίδες όπως βλέπετε στην πάνω μεριά της φωτογραφίας που είχα φτιάξει για το γύρω γύρω. Ελα μου όμως που είχα σχεδιάσει λάθος μέγεθος για τα στοιχεία που έχουν οι λωρίδες….. Ξήλωμα των λωρίδων και ξανακόψιμο όλων των στοιχείων που χρησιμοποίησα για να τις φτιάξω, γιατί ήθελα μικρότερο μέγεθος και περισσότερα κομμάτια. Ευτυχώς που είχα και αυτές τις μήτρες, τις μικρότερες.

Patchworkwise my project came to an end. Sandwitch ready using the  Heirloom® Premium 80/20 Cotton/Poly Blend that Hobbs had sent and of course I started quilting on my Husqvarna Epic 980 Q, using as always the best possible needles, Schmetz. I used one spool of Aurifil thread for the quilting. However I faced so many problems with the quilting that if it weren’t for a good cause, this project would have waited another better time to be finished. I ripped almost 2/3 of the quilting for different reasons. 3 of my machines did not cooperate as usual. Take a look at the density of the quilting. Imagine the ripping.

Τελειώνω με τα πολλά το πάτσγουορκ, φτιάχνω το σάντουιτς με τη βάτα Heirloom® Premium 80/20 Cotton/Poly Blend που έστειλε η Hobbs και φυσικά το καπιτονάρισμα ξεκίνησε να γίνεται στην Husqvarna Viking Epiq 980 Q μου χρησiμοποιώντας όπως πάντα βελόνες Schmetz. Μια κλωστή Aurifil κάλυψε όλο μου το καπιτονάρισμα. Όμως, έλα που δεν συνεργάζονταν οι μηχανές μου για κάποιο λόγο… 3μηχανές άλλαξα και επιτέλους κατάφερα να το καπιτονάρω, αφού ξήλωσα τα 2/3 του καπιτοναρίσματος……..Και δείτε τι πυκνό που το έκανα.

I then cut the binding using the die of 2,5″ and binded my work. Of course I had to wash it so that all those holes form ripping get dissapeared. And since it has been washed, the relief of the quilting is amazing, as you can see.

Αφού με τα πολλά το καπιτονάρισα, στη συνέχεια, έκοψα τις λωρίδες για το ρέλι μου με την κοπτική μήτρα των 6 περίπου εκ. και ρέλιασα. Φυσικά έπρεπε να το πλύνω για να κλείσουν όλες αυτές οι τρύπες από τα ξηλώματα και επειδή πλύθηκε, βλέπετε και το έντονο ανάγλυφο που δημιούργησε.

The result pleased me a lot. Colorwise, it is me. I hope it will be also liked by my beloved people in Pnoi Agapis, where I am going to gift, like the previous one.

Φυσικά το αποτέλεσμα μου αρέσει πάρα πολύ. Είναι πολύ αντιπροσωπευτικό μου από πλευράς χρωμάτων. Εύχομαι να αρέσει και στους αγαπημένους μου της Πνοής Αγάπης που θα το δώσω, όπως είχα δώσει και το προηγούμενο.

And because it its the time I like making rope baskets, I made again a basket with the strips that remained. Now my project is ready to go to my favority organization, Pnoi Agapis. It is not a comfort quilt, but it is something that will offer comfort by being sold at their bazar.

Και επειδή περνάω και τη φάση των καλαθακίων, έφτιαξα και πάλι ένα καλαθι να το συνοδεύσει με τα υφάσματα που έμειναν. Κι έτσι το έργο μου είναι έτοιμο να πάει στην αγαπημένη μου Πνοή Αγάπης. Δεν είναι πάπλωμα ανακούφισης με την έννοια του παπλώματος, αλλά σίγουρα θα προσφέρει ανακούφιση αν πουληθεί στο μπαζάρ τους.
