“A great challenge from an old favorite! There are so many ways to do a log cabin block. What will you pick? Choose your blocks from curved, triangle, wonky, star, twisted, classic. You can create variations by adding appliqué. Then choose your layout, there are way too many options to mention! Use any technique, paper pieced or traditional”. The required size was 36″*36″ at least. I made it oblong (32 * 44″). How I chose my theme? You know me. Catching Dreams is the name of the collection I should use. It was sent along with my first box by my favorite Island Batik and I had hidden it when I made the presentation of the box contents. Το μέγεθος που έπρεπε να φτιάξουμε ήταν 1 μ. επί 1 μ. τουλάχιστον. Εγώ το έκανα μακρόστενο (0,80 * 1,10μ.) Ξέρετε τώρα πώς διαλέγω εγώ θέμα. Κυνηγώντας όνειρα είναι το όνομα της παρακάτω συλλογής που είχα μπροστά μου και είχε φτάσει με το πρώτο κουτί του 2020 που μου είχαν στείλει τα αγαπημένα Island Batik. Σας την είχα κρύψει τότε. The first thing I thought of making was a Dreamcatcher. I remembered there was one pattern on the UK magazine Love Patchwork and Quilting, issue 32. Unfortunately the pattern was wrong. I had made it once in the past and I had forgot all about it. But I remembered the way I corrected it. Whereas the pattern was calling for 8 pieces, I had to make a whole 9th piece in order to have an acceptable result. Therefore I made my Dreamcatcher. The fabrics were amazing!
Το πρώτο πράγμα που σκέφτηκα ήταν να κάνω μια ονειροπαγίδα. Θυμήθηκα ότι σε ένα περιοδικό Love Patchwork and Quilting, τεύχος 32, υπήρχε ένα ανάλογο σχέδιο. Δυστυχώς το σχέδιο ήταν λάθος. Το είχα ξανακάνει στο παρελθόν και το είχα ξεχάσει. Θυμήθηκα όμως ή ξανασκέφτηκα (;;;) τον τρόπο που το είχα διορθώσει. Ενώ το πατρόν έλεγε ότι η ονειροπαγίδα αποτελείται από 8 τμήματα, χρειαζόταν 1 ολόκληρο κομμάτι ακόμα για να βγει σωστή. Τέλος πάντων, αν έχετε κι εσείς αυτό το περιοδικό, να ξέρετε ότι πρέπει να κάνετε προσαρμογές. Έφτιαξα λοιπόν την ονειροπαγίδα στα μέτρα μου. Τα υφάσματα είναι το ένα καλύτερο από τάλλο.
I then added a dark border of 4″. I designed a log cabin on a piece of paper. I had decided to make my log cabins the clasic pattern, but FPP. I cut several stripes of all the fabrics and started sewing without choosing colors.
Τα πλαισίωσα με μια φάσα 10 εκ. Μετά σχεδίασα μια log cabin σε χαρτί. Έκοψα λωρίδες από όλα τα υφάσματα της συλλογής και άρχισα να ράβω χωρίς να επιλέγω υφάσματα. Τράβαγα λωρίδες στην τύχη.
Every piece was chaotic by itsself. But, when I joined them, I had a very nice piece of fabric and a beautiful external border.
Το αποτέλεσμα κάθε κομματιού ξεχωριστά χαοτικό, αλλά όλα μαζί, δίνουν ένα πανέμορφο αποτέλεσμα, δημιουργώντας ένα δεύτερο εξωτερικό πλαίσιο.
I embroidered on my Brillance 80 the name of the collection and my project in Greek and English.
Κέντησα με την καινούργια γαζωτική/κεντητική μου μηχανή Brillance 80 το όνομα της συλλογής και του έργου στα Ελληνικά και Αγγλικά.
I sandwitched using the Hobbs batting that I was sent in my box
Σαντουιτσάρισα με τη βάτα Hobbs που είχε μέσα το κουτί μου
I machine free motion quilted, following the circles on my base fabric. I also quilted in hand look stitch.
Καπιτονάρισα εξ ολοκλήρου στη μηχανή με ελεύθερο ακολουθώντας τους κύκλους που είχε επάνω το ύφασμα βάσης μου και χρησιμοποίησα και λίγο τη βελονιά που είναι απομίμηση του χεράτου καπιτοναρίσματος.
It is self understanding that I used my Schmetz needles, that I have been using the last years, even before Schmetz joins the Ambassadors program.
Εννοείται ότι χρησιμοποίησα τις βελόνες Schmetz, μια και είναι οι αγαπημένες μου και τις χρησιμοποιώ χρόνια τώρα, πριν ενταχθούν στο πρόγραμμα των Island Batik. Αν θέλετε να τις δοκιμάσετε κι εσείς, ρίξτε μια ματιά εδώ.
Then feathers and arrows were added by hand as well as beads
Μετά προστέθηκαν τα ανάγλυφα φτερά και βέλη και οι χάντρες
and voila! I struggled a lot with this project because many things were happening at the same time, but the result was rewarding!!!!
και voila. Ζορίστηκα πολύ χρονικά γιατί έτρεχαν διάφορα αυτό το διάστημα, αλλά το αποτέλεσμα με αποζημίωσε.

I just love this Mania! A couple of years ago I bought a Dreamcatcher for my grandson, and he loves it and believes in its powers. I may keep this quilt on the back burner of ideas for future quilts for him! Wonderful work, with gorgeous fabrics!
