My big adventure in the magic world of batik counts already six months. And the time came for each one of us to reveal her secret coollection. Do you remember, that while I was showing you the content of my first package, sent by Island batik, there was also a package carefully wrapped and not revealed then? This was my secret collection for Spring Summer 2018, British Rose.
Έκλεισαν ήδη 6 μήνες από τότε που ξεκίνησε για μένα αυτό το παραμύθι στον χώρο των υφασμάτων μπατίκ. Στο κλείσιμο λοιπόν του εξαμήνου, παρουσιάζουμε η καθεμιά τη κρυφή της συλλογή. Θυμάστε όταν σας έδειξα το περιεχόμενο του πακέτου που μου έστειλαν τα γενναιόδωρα Island Batik; Η καινούργια συλλογή που μου έστειλαν ήταν τυλιγμένη προσεκτικά και δεν την αποκαλύψαμε τότε. Η δικιά μου λοιπόν συλλογή για την Άνοιξη και το Καλοκαίρι του 2018 ήταν το Βρετανικό Ρόδο (Βritish Rose).

Especially turquoises and purples! However I have to admit that fabrics with dragonfies took my breath away…..
Ειδικά τα τυρκουάζ και τα μωβ! Πρέπει όμως να ομολογήσω ότι τα υφάσματα με τις λιβελούλες μού έκλεψαν την καρδιά μου….
I also liked those two dirty pinks a lot .
Επίσης πάρα πολύ μου άρεσαν αυτά τα δυο “σκοτωμένα” ροζ.
I also need to admit that while my aim was to make a queen size quilt, because there were plenty of fabrics, I ended by making an almost twin quilt, because I decided on having some fabric left for other projects. I like the fabrics so much!
Και θα παραδεχτώ ότι ενώ ξεκίνησα για διπλό πάπλωμα, γιατί τα υφάσματα έφταναν και με το παραπάνω, έκανα μερικές εκπτώσεις για να μου μείνουν υφάσματα και για άλλα έργα. Τόσο πολύ μου άρεσαν!
The great outdoors is this month’schallenge and comes along with a blog hop, which means that we are going to visit all blogs taking part in the “Diplomatic corps”.
Βόλτα στις εξοχές λοιπόν το θέμα αυτού του μήνα και συνοδεύεται από ένα blog hop. Δηλαδή θα επισκεφτούμε όλα τα blogs που μετέχουν στο “Διπλωματικό Σώμα”.
Of course it was not necessary to pick a pattern related to the theme. What was necessary was to show you the most fabrics of the collection. While thinking of the pattern, I remebered of the “Quilters Village”. A pattern from the booklet “Crazy till cows come home” by the “The Baggy Barn”.
Φυσικά δεν ήταν απαραίτητο το θέμα να έχει να κάνει με εξοχή. Αυτό που ήταν απαραίτητο ήταν να φαίνονται ακόμα και όλα τα υφάσματα της συλλογής, αν ήταν δυνατόν. Και όπως με απασχολούσε το σχέδιο, ήρθε στο μυαλό μου ένα σχέδιο που είχα αγοράσει και ακριβοπληρώσει, γιατί το μαγαζί που είχε κάνει την έκδοση έχει κλείσει και τα βιβλιαράκια του ήταν σχεδόν συλλεκτικά, αν κρίνω από την τιμή. To σχέδιο λέγεται “To χωριό των παπλωματούδων” και είναι από το έντυπο με τον τίτλο “Crazy till cows come home” του μαγαζιού “The Baggy Barn”.
I started and finished the top in two days . The technique is so fun! The result? Amazing!!!
Ξεκίνησα λοιπόν και το ολοκλήρωσα μέσα από μια σχετικά γρήγορη διαδικασία, γιατί ήταν και πολύ διασκεδαστική. Το αποτέλεσμα; Καταπληκτικό!!!!
I ended up with a quilt 1,70 * 2,20 m., which means less than a twin. While I was making it, I was at our summer house. Looking in the closets, I remebered some blankets, dated back in 70’s and 80′ that I was not fond of. However I have several of those, since my MIL liked them. I thought then of using one of those blankets instead of the batting.
Πρόκειται για ένα πάπλωμα 1,70 επί 2,20, δηλαδή ένα μπόλικο μονό. Όταν το έφτιαχνα ήμουν στην Τζιά. Ψάχνοντας τα ντουλάπια, θυμήθηκα κάτι ακριλικές κουβέρτες της δεκαετίας του 70-80, τις crylor. Τις θυμόσαστε; Εγώ ποτέ δεν τις συμπάθησα. Βρέθηκα όμως με μερικές από αυτές μια και τις συμπαθούσε η πεθερά μου. Σκέφτηκα λοιπόν να χρησιμοποιήσω μια από αυτές αντί για βάτα.
The result was satisfying. The quilt is now for very cold days. The procedure? I would say not to try using this type of blankets instead of batting, unless you have a machine with big space. It was a little bit difficult even for myself, because the whole quilt became very heavy. However, as you may see below I got a beautiful relief (you see that the whole family helps, at least those who were present). On the back side, I used one of my handdyed fabrics.
Το αποτέλεσμα είναι όμορφο. Έγινε ένα πολύ ζεστό πάπλωμα. Η διαδικασία; Θα έλεγα να μην την επιχειρήσετε σε μια μηχανή με μικρό χώρο. Εγώ που έχω τόσο χώρο στη μηχανή μου και παιδεύτηκα πολύ εκτός των άλλων και λόγω του βάρους της κουβέρτας. Όμως, όπως βλέπετε παρακάτω το ανάγλυφο που πέτυχα είναι εξαιρετικό (βλέπετε ότι βοηθάει όλη η οικογένεια ή τουλάχιστον όσοι ήταν παρόντες). Στην πίσω μεριά χρησιμοποίησα ένα από τα χειροβαμμένα μου υφάσματα.
I also used Aurifil threads that were in my package. Those sent to me were combined to the collection fabrics. I quilted in free motion in the contours of the shapes (not in the ditch).
Και φυσικά μέσα στο πακέτο μου υπήρχαν και κλωστές Aurifil ταιριαστές με τα συγκεκριμένα υφάσματα. Εννοείται ότι τις χρησιμοποίησα για το καπιτονάρισμα, που όπως καταλάβατε το έκανα ελεύθερο τονίζοντας τα περιγράμματα.
I had left a few blocks that I did not use because I had not made the right selection of color intensity and I did not like them for the quilt. However, I used two of them and made a charger case, that I liked a lot.
Μου περίσσεψαν και μερικά κομμάτια που δεν τα έβαλα γιατί δεν είχα κάνει καλή επιλογή της έντασης των χρωμάτων και ήταν λίγο χαοτικά. Έφτιαξα όμως με δυο από αυτά μια θήκη για τους φορτιστές μου ενόψει ταξιδιού, που με ενθουσίασε κι αυτή.
Since this month is a little bit festive, what would you say about a give away? I will give you all the strips left from this project along with two fat quarters. For two persons. A beautiful quilt. I like the idea of recycling blankets as batting but it does make a heavier quilt. You are brave! The quilting is lovely and the houses are so interesting. I think you had great colors to work with.

I like that the houses have a star, pinwheel, heart and flying geese in their design. Quilters village!
Great use for old blankets. This way it makes the blanket pretty and useful, insted of living in the back of closet.

What a stunning quilt! Did you know that American pioneer women used to use old quilts and blankets inside their quilts for batting? You are continuing an old quilting tradition of “making do” with what is on hand.

What a beautiful quilt! I think that’s clever using an old blanket. I have an old baby quilt that my great grandmother made for me where she used her flannel nightgown for the batting.
