An exhibition and a quilting bee at Argalasti (Pelion mountain in Greece)

When the exhibition poster was posted on the Facebook, my friend Katerina Dovinou and I thought the same thing: It would be wonderful, if we could attend the event…..

Stavros, Katerina’s husband, who is a mile eater, offered himself to drive us there. Therefore we went to Argalasti, which is a village of Southern Pelion (a mountain in Central Greece, almost 250 miles from Athens). We had already known Ginette and Sandra, the one of two Orfanoudaki sisters. We met Konstadina, the second one, there.

Everything started with Ginette, the mother, who started quilting 25 years ago. Sandra was observing and learning from an early age and Konstadina started a few months ago. Sandra also organized a quilting bee at Argalasti, where the two sisters live. The result was the exhibition.

A quilt by Ginette, inspired by Argalasti’s whereabouts
A friendship quilt by Ginette. Women around the globe exchange the blocks and each of them put the blocks together in her way. The quilt below is Ginette’s quilt. You may also see a detail of the quilt.

 You may meet below Ginette

There was even “mola” technique amount the projects
There was also a combination of crochet and quilting
Take a look at some other projects exhibited:

I think that it is amazing how many beautiful patchwork and quilting projects happen in Greece and we startdiscovering them  step by step. Isn’t it? So, if you are a member of a quilting bee in Greece and would like to share your work with the rest of us, please do not hesitate to contact me.
