Another bee at Sparta!!!

It is obvious, that since I wrote this, the bee of the title is a quilting bee!
You remember that on my previous article, I wrote about Kristin and Thomas who made a quilting exhibition in Thessaloniki and then took this exhibition to many cities in Greece. One of those cities was Sparta.
This exhibition took place at the Library of Sparta and attracted the interest of many women to quilting.
Ada Kopitopoulou was living in Sparta. She was a quilter. She had attended the conference in Thessaloniki,, where she was the interpreter of the conference. Furthermore, three of her quilts were presented in the exhibition.

When other women asked to learn how to make quilting, it was Kristin, qho prosposed to Ada to teach. Ada had never thought of it. Besides, as she says, she has never been taught patchwork in an “official way”. But does it any matter?
Even those who were taught in a class, the moved forward by themselves after the first lessons. A class, a teacher can only show you the way. It is up to you to keep this way a narrow path or to turn it to a wide avenue.
So Ada started teaching just after the exhibition. And then her students loved quilting and wanted to keep in touch between them, because they had a great time whereasthey learned new tehcniques and made beautiful things.  It was something like that that started the quilting bee of Sparta. They aim to make a few quilts of various sizes, in order to be given to people in need next Christmas.

How do they work? Each one of them makes a specific number of pieces and then they get all together once a month to join their pieces and work  further on the quilt.

Ladies of Sparta and why not Gentlemen, should you interested in, look for Ada and her bees. You will learn to make beautiful things, have great time and help some people in need.

Furthermore, the plan to organize an exhibition with their projects during next spring. They will include every item they have quilted. I hope they will remember to inite us to admire their work.

Should you have a small team willing to show us your work, please send me a message (maniahatziio@gmail.com) Furthermore, I created a team on Facebook “Και στην Ελλλάδα αγαπάμε το πάτσγουωρκ”, that I encourage you to join. This is mainly a Greek-speaking team, but our English speaking friends are more than welcome too. The page “Quilters of Greece United” is still there.
